My fears for the wrong start block were not based on solid ground: First I was in the sub 3 hour block and second I was so close to the elite that I could smell them and there was no separation of the runners. However, most were set in the correct block. As I jumped in from the front end, I could take a leader position on my block and inherited the duty to start as an elite. There was no pushing and the three minutes waiting passed quick. The runners of my block seemed to block me too much and I had the dream to run as fast as the half marathon the weekend before, so I took the run on the left railing and passed all the runners of my blocked and was only feet away from the five African runners. That was a position that suited me for the start photos and I tried to hold it for hundred then two hundred meters. We entered a big alley and that breadth of it allowed for the runners behind me probably also much space on the first kilometers. I stayed one step aside of the optimal line while the professional runners took me one by one. There was no chance I could have followed even for only one meter the fastest girls but somehow I remember running with the third placed girl accompanied by the positional bike. When we took the boa turn I saw the three hour pacemaker shortly behind me and we may have passed the third kilometer, my dream was fading away and there was no energy left to memorize more details and I was running and kept focusing on not loosing too much speed against the tougher runners. We entered at the port, or better said, at the wall that separates us from the sea-view but there was no time to enjoy at this point of the race. I was aware that this speed could not be hold for the whole track but hoped to magically prevent my slowing some when. We entered the promenade of the marina, running on the asphalt and not the marble so we didn't had to watch our steps. Now I knew the most enjoyable part of the marathon was ahead of us and with that in mind I had smiled for the photo-cameras. I was enjoying to much. The way I did in training ten month ago passed quickly as did the other runners. I felt less strong and started to smile all the way. I was loosing much and more and more of other coloured numbers over-took me. Still I was ahead of the three hour pace maker, but knew it could not last for long. Every time a group of runners took me I was afraid that the pacemaker was among them, and before we turned on the coastal road it happened. I was somewhat broken, but still in time for a new personal best. I was smiling now when I saw the other runners passing me on the other side and did not knew at this moment that almost every of them will pass me later. I greeted or sent kisses to the girls looking at me and could not stop me from looking back for some pretty ones. Not only that constantly I was loosing positions but also I felt that my speed was going down. I was thinking on the 3:09 and tried to have a good time for the half part and I did a decent one, when we arrived in the center again. But I no longer felt strong, I tried to run away from the next pace maker when we were running on the allay back the coast. Eventually he took me and I was disappointed by then still wanting to make it my second best marathon. I tried to find a runner to hook in and after some failed attempts with guys a big girl overtook and I was hooked for the next ten kilometers. Too bad there were no photographers on that part, we were running in the stadium and I felt stronger again. I could hold the speed now and the girl seemed motivated by me. Somewhat later we slowed down and runners were overtaking, I was happy she was not running away from me that fast, but I put together the Russian word to thank her because I felt very week in my body, though my mind was pleased and remembered running with the other polish athlete in Athens. But this time I could not hold it, I said spasibo to her and fell back. I felt week and kilometer thirty had passed not long ago. We were heading up north for the next time taker point and boa turn, when I decided to take a walking break and drink the whole bottle in peace. I gave up running and tried only partially after drinking. I could run again, but was half as fast as the other runners. We entered the panoramic part now with all the cameramen. I tried to enjoy the walk now, but was very disappointed at the same time. When we entered the passenger shopping zone in the center with the Christmas decoration I took if my head-band and my earphone and got the first photo without them on a run. We were entering the last 500 meters and I went running again until kilometer 42. I didn't wanted to see the clock because the 3:30 pacemaker had taken me while I was walking but I glanced a 3:34:40 something and set up for a final sprint. I was again faster for the last 20 meters. I thanked to have finished that race and asked politely the medal girl for a kiss and she gave me two. I was now eating fruits and drinking alcohol beer and collecting goods in a carton. I was almost paralysed but could move better than the first minute after finishing. I was walking to the hostel very slowly and took a shower only after taking a nap for an hour. Then I collected my camera and the bag of my friend to go to the finish zone again. I was pretty sure she will make it, but I had asked the security guys for where the collector bus arrives. They told me at the square before the finish and I went there. I spotted her running and walking and ran to her to tell that she had all time she needs. That motivated her to take a run again when I filmed her last half kilometer. She was stronger than me that day and achieved her goal that day.
